An AORN guidance statement forward correct site surgery was approved according to the House of Delegates last year. Since that time, the Joint Commission onward Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations has issued of recent origin guidelines on correct site surgery that are being incorporated into the AORN statement. The American body of Surgeons (ACS) also is in the proces of developing a statement in succession correct site surgery. The AORN Presidential Commission onward Patient Safety reviewed a draft of the ACS statement and provided elucidations to the ACS committee forward perioperative care for consideration. The Presidential Commission has been working toward developing a statement forward correct site surgery that the pair AORN and ACS can support. The Commission believes that the confusing array of correct site surgery guidelines and policies unraveled by professional organizations and hospitals may contribute to errors in identifying the correct surgical site. at collaborating on a statement or risk of basic correct site guidelines, ACS and AORN may be able to influence change toward greater standardization of processs for identifying the correct surgical site and, thereby, abridge errors. The ACS board of governors was scheduled to consider a statement onward correct site surgery at a meeting in succession Oct 11, 2002. At pres time, we did not have confirmation regarding actions taken from the ACS regents on a correct site surgery statement.
