The AORN awards for outstanding acc...The AORN awards for outstanding accomplishments during the past year will be at handed during Congress at the Awards Dinner to be held Saturday, March 22 at 6:30 PM at the Chicago Hilton. Recipients of individual outstanding achievement, chapter, and writers awards will be recognized. OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS The outstanding achievement awards this year recognize * Kay A. Ball, RN BSN MSA, CNOR, FAAN--Award for good quality in Perioperative Nursing; * Michelle M Byrne RN M PhD CNOR--Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Academic Nursing Education; * Raphael (Ray) J Landreneau, RN BSN CNOR--Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Education; * Carolyn Ann Bauer, RN B CNOR--Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Practice; * Elke s Guillot, RN, CNOR, CRNFA--Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Patient Education; * Mary Lynne Weemering, RN MSN CNOR--Outstanding Achievement in Mentorship; and * Cynthia Hickey Kuperus, RN MBA, CNOR, CRNFA--Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management. The award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management is sponsored from SSM and SSM Online. CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD For the 2003 Congres members of the Membership, Legislative, and Research Committees and the National Committee in succession Education selected five categories for chapters to contend in for Chapter of the Year Awards. These categories include membership, research, newsletter continuing education, and legislative. Committee members solicited chapters to without fault [i]or[/i] blemish [i]or[/i] flaw surveys, scored the surveys, and submitted the point scores to the Awards Committee. Members of the Awards Committee collated and evaluated points and used composite points to determine the award recipients. Chapter of the Year Awards recognize winners in each chapter size category (ie, small, medium, intermediate, large). Each category may have a gold silver, and brass winner. A chapter may be the recipient of the Chapter of the Year Award (ie, gold) in its size category simply once every three years; however, chapters may be pick outed for silver or bronze awards in consecutive years. WRITERS struggle to defend AWARDS The Writers contend for Awards recognize authors of quality AORN Journal articles. There are four categories for this contest--clinical/ambulatory, research, education, and management. At least the same author of a manuscript must be an RN and an AORN member for the article to be considered for an award. All AORN Journal articles that adapted this requirement and are published during the calendar year preceding Congres are eligible for the contest Winning articles in each category are chosen based in succession points awarded to the articles by way of AORN Journal editors, Editorial Board members, and independent umpires Winners share award money provided by the agency of ETHICON, Inc.
