Wearing noncorrective, decorative contact lense that are distributed without a prescription and without special fitting by an eye care professional can lead to serious permanent vigilance injury that potentially can cause blindness, according to an Oct 21 2002 recently made knowns release from the US fare and Drug Administration (FDA). These lense are marketed directly to consumer in flea markets, convenience stores, and beach shops The FDA has received reports of corneal gathering associated with wearing these lense in exces of the commended time period. Left untreated, corneal fester can lead to internal ocular infection. An infection can lead to corneal scarring and vision impairment, which can lead to blindness. Other risks associated with wearing decorative lense include allergic reaction; conjunctivitis; corneal abrasion from poor len fit; corneal edema; and reduc visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and other visual functions, which can interfere with driving ability and other activities. Consumer are urg to discontinue use of decorative contact lense that have been issued without a prescription and correct fitting by an eye care professional immediately.
