The Center for Disease direct and Prevention (CDC) has discloseed an interactive CD-ROM-based training course to assist microbiologists in selecting and using appropriate testing way s to detect antimicrobial-resistant strains of bacteria, according to a Dec 17 2002 moderns release from the CDC. This course will provide the principally extensive compilation of information upon antimicrobial resistance testing available to date. The issue of antimicrobial resistance has grown more compound because new medications have become available and resistance has increased. The sense of the course is to help microbiologists better discover the problem, which affects public health from beginning to end the country. According to CDC estimates, more than 70% of the bacteria that cause hospital acquired infections are resistant to at least single medication commonly used to treat of that kind infections. Approximately 10000 copies of the CD-ROM will be distributed to microbiologists from first to last the United States. After completing the course, they can receive up to eight hours of continuing education credit. The target audience for the course includes microbiology laboratory directors, supervisors, medical technologists, physicians, pharmacists, and medical students CDC Prepares Microbiologists for Detecting Increasing Antimicrobial Resistance (new release, Atlanta: Center for Disease bridle and Prevention, Dec 17, 2002) http:// www.cdc.gov/od/oc/medio/pressrel/r021217.htm (accessed 29 Dec 2002) COPYRIGHT 2003 Association of Operating play Nurses, Inc.
