PURPOSE

The intention of this study was to use a theoretical example to determine whether an efficacy-enhancing teaching protocol was effective in improving immediate postoperative behaviors and pitch uponed short- and long-term health issues in women who underwent abdominal hysterectomies. The hypotheses guiding this investigation were as follows.

1 Patients who received the efficacy-enhancing teaching protocol will have higher scores onward the preoperative self-efficacy scale (PSES) while controlling for postintervention self-efficacy, than patients who did not receive the protocol.

2 Patients who received the efficacy-enhancing teaching protocol will have lower preoperative and postoperative scores onward the State Anxiety Inventory (SAI) than patients who did not receive the protocol, while controlling for postintervention anxiety, preoperatively, at discharge, at six weeks after surgery and at six month after surgery (8)

3 Patients who received the efficacy-enhancing teaching protocol will have lower pain scores forward the visual analog scale (VAS) immediately after surgery than patients who did not receive the protocol.

4 Patients who received the efficacy-enhancing teaching protocol will have a higher even of performance of ambulation immediately after surgery than patients who did not receive the protocol, when controlling for postoperative pain.

5 Patients who received the efficacy-enhancing teaching protocol will have a higher vital capacity immediately after surgery while controlling for postintervention vital capacity and postoperative pain, than patients who did not receive the protocol.
