A clear trending toward increased self-care is emerging as aging baby-boomers voice a desire for more involvement in and options for their health care. For everyday ailments, 77% of Americans report that they have used an over-the-counter medicine in the past six months--almost twice the proportion (43%) who reported consulting a physician during that time. Importantly, 95% of consumer report reading package labels and directions before first-time use, and 91% say they pay attention to package label information about potential side tenors and drug interactions.
