The AORN Board of Directors met at Headquarters in Denver from June 4 to 7 2003 All Board members were not absent as was Executive Director Tom Cooper CAE, and executive staff members. The Board participated in a progression in a continuously ascending gradation day with Bud Crouch from Tecker Consultants, Trenton, NJ The theme, which was "The challenge of leading an association in revolutionary times--Building a leadership strategy" was timely and the session was to a high degree enlightening. An education session in succession relations with the media also was provided to Board members and executive staff members. During the formal Board meeting, the Board of Directors approved the minutes from the February 21 to 22 and March 28 2003 Board of Directors meetings. Other topics discussed during the June Board meeting included the governmental estimate AORN Management Solutions, Lobby Day 2004 and Congress

Board members approved the six-month batch for July through December 2003 This action will bring AORN in sync fiscally with the January from one side December fiscal year approved at the 2003 House of Delegates during the 2003 AORN Congres in Chicago.

MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS

The Board of Directors also approved the creation of AORN Management Solutions (formerly called Opportunity) as a separate entity beginning July 1 2003 An action plan that included financial resources, the timeframe, and creating a board of directors was addressed. Appointments for the Management Solutions board of directors are being processed

LOBBY DAY 2004

A motion was made and approved to foundation $500 scholarships to the 2004 Lobby Day for an individual from each state. Board members earnestly support AORN's presence and visibility upon Capital Hill to support AORN's legislative priorities.

CONGRES 2004

Board members also approved the 2004 Congres week-at-a-glance schedule. This schedule places the AORN business and educational plan during Congres week in San Diego.

The AORN Board of Directors met again onward July 24, 2003 before the Leadership interview in Denver. A report upon that meeting will appear in a coming events issue of the AORN Journal. Board members also are scheduled to come up to face to face Nov 13 to 15, 2003 adviseed agenda items should be sent to President Betty Shultz RN CNOR, at AORN Headquarters, 2170 s Parker Rd, Suite 300, Denver CO 80231-5711
