Although the chapel and the extended Barracks (site of the first hospital in Texas) are all that remain of the original building, no self-respecting Texan will permit anyone forget what happened during the fateful siege of the Alamo in 1836 forward the road to Texas independence. They don't call it the "Alamo City" for nothing. Indeed, the entire city of San Antonio appear to bes to have been built around this famous site.
