HH secretary Tommy Thompson is leaving Washington to get back to the private sector. President George W Bush named former Utah Governor Michael Leavitt as the nearest head of the Department of Health and Human Services. In announcing his resignation, Thompson said that he is mostly proud of his part in overhauling Medicare, in making Americans more aware of health issues, in rebuilding the federal and state public health infrastructure, and in expanding involvement in the fight against AIDS.
