During the 2003-2004 instruct year, approximately 35,000 people applied for medical academy admission, up 3.4% from the previous year, according to a Nov 4 2003 of recent origins release from the Association of American Medical corporations (AAMC). This increase was caused mainly according to a 7% increase in the number of female applicants.

In 1997 the number of men applying to medical teachs declined sharply--a trend that flushed off in 2003-2004. Also in 2003-2004 women made up the majority of applicants for the first time ever; the number of African American female applicants increased at approximately 10%; the number of African American applicants rose overall by means of 5%; and the number of Hispanic applicants increased from less than 2%.
