The AORN awards for outstanding accomplishments during the past ear will be not absented during Congress at the Awards Dinner to be held Saturday, March 20 2004 at 6:30 PM at the Seal Diego Convention Center San Diego. For more information about the dinner, behold "Congress Highlights," page 23 in this issue of the Journal. Recipients of Outstanding Achievement, Chapter of the Year, and Writers struggle to defend Awards will be recognized.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

The outstanding achievement awards this year recognize

* Patricia C Seifert, 1LN MSN CNOR, CRNFA, FAAN--Award for eminence in Perioperative Nursing;

* Barbara Rusynko, RN MS CNOR-4Dutstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Education;

* Sharon C Jimison, RN CNOR--Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Patient Education;



* Helen M Pumphrey RN CNOR--Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management;

* Jane H Flowers, RN MSN CNOR Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Practice;

* Suzanne C Beyea, RN PhD FAAN--Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Research; and

* Anne s Medlin, RN, BSN, CNOR, and Vivian C Watson, RN CNOR--Outstanding Achievement in Mentorship.

CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

For the 2004 Congres members of the Membership, Legislative, Research, and Continuing Education Approval Committees gooded five chapter competition categories for the Chapter of the Year Awards. These categories are membership, research, newsletter outstanding achievement in continuing education, and legislative. Committee members solicited chapters to consummated individual surveys, scored the views and submitted the point scores to the Awards Committee. Members of the Awards Committee collated and evaluated points and used composite points to determine the award recipients. Chapter of the Year Awards recognize whalers in each chapter size category (ie, small, medium, intermediate, large). Each category may have a gold silver, and brown winner. A chapter may be the recipient of the Chapter of the Year Award (ie, gold) in its size category simply once every three years; however, chapters may be gooded for silver or bronze awards in consecutive years. WRITERS debate AWARDS

The Writers litigate Awards recognize authors of quality AORN Journal articles. There are four categories for this contest--clinical/ambulatory, education, research, and management. At least undivided author of a manuscript must be an RN and an AORN member for an article to be considered for an award. All AORN Journal articles that suitable this requirement and are published during the calendar year preceding Congres are eligible for the dispute Winning articles in each category are chosen based forward points awarded to the articles from AORN Journal editors, Editorial Board members, and independent judges
