The following standards were revised by means of the Nursing Practices Committee and approved from the AORN Board of Directors in November 1996 They are a revision of the "Standards of Administrative Nursing Practice: OR" originally published in the June 1976 AORN Journal and the "Standards of Perioperative Administrative Practice" approved at the Board in November 1991

The "Standards of Perioperative Administrative Practice" promote as the foundation upon which the perioperative setting is organized and managed. These texture standards are developed to guide professionals in administrative parts and to provide direction for evaluation of operational orders These standards are broad in free play definitive, relevant, and attainable, and they provide the framework for continuous quality improvement.
