The "Patient issue standards for perioperative care" were expanded by the AORN Nursing Practices Committee and approved on the AORN Board of Directors in November 1983

In November 1991 these standards were enamed "Patient Outcomes: Standards of Perioperative Care." This change was intended to think that standards of care describe the desired proceeds that patients can expect to receive during surgical and other diagnostic or therapeutic interventions. In 1995 the Data ingredients Coordinating Committee (DECC) charged the DECC issues subcommittee with revising the standards.
