I really derive pleasure fromed the article about the older OR nourishs "The Experience of Being an Older Perioperative Nurse" (vol 78 October 2003) It certainly captured the volatile part of the current situation with older encourages who have the brains, on the other hand not the brawn; have the work ethic, unless not the stamina.

The authors are right about taking call and the grave pay to stay home and tensely wait for that formidable telephone call. In addition, taking call is long harder on older nurses. the same of them commented that getting older can mean you cannot travel anywhere else, inferring that age discrimination is alive and well, plane with the nursing shortage. I certainly can attest to that as individual reason I got out of the OR and got more education. plane when I applied for an OR position this past April, I figured gone out the real reason for the lack of reply was my age (and perhaps my being across educated).

The pampers in the article mentioned the ne for flexible schedules, which would be helpful for older as well as more [i]or[/i] less younger, nurses. Why not impediment them work four- or six-hour days? It appears some hospitals are preaching shared governance and practicing domination. There is a real lack of being "intentionally inviting." I astonishment when hospital OR managers will wake up and realize that it is time for any changes ... for innovation for thinking out of the box
