Women now pretend to do as well as men after undergoing surgical operations to restore blood flow to the heart, according to a tribe 28, 1998, press release from the American Heart Association. Researchers credit these findings to advances in technology (eg the use of stents) improved surgical techniques, and possibly physicians' greater sensitivity to sex difference in heart disease. According to the release, a fresh study found no differences between men and women in bourns of both in-hospital deaths and five-year survival rates, although women oftentimes have more risk factors when they bear cardiac bypass surgery or angioplasty performances The results contradict previous studies that fix that women did poorly compared to men after either bypass surgery or angioplasty processs In fact, earlier studies showed that virtually all women undergoing bypass surgery had an in-hospital death rate couple and one-half times that of men The death rates were higher for women after angioplasty transactions as well. Researchers say the just discovered study is good news for women The inquiry found that, out of 1829 men and women in a randomized trial of patients undergoing either bypass or angioplasty performances 1.3% of the women versus 14% of the men died in the hospital after bypass surgery and just les than 1% of women versus 12% of the men died after angioplasty actions Five years after revascularization, 87% of the women and 88% of the men were still alive. Further, 75% of the women and 77% of the men survived five years without suffering another heart attack, according to the release. Although researchers cannot say for confident why these findings are different from those of previous studies, they do say that improved technology and techniques--along with greater awareness of issues that are specific to women--are possible explanations.
