This article lists the candidates for AORN national offices. The annual election will be held during the 1999 Congres upon Thursday, April 1, from 7 to 11 AM in extents 270 to 276 of the Moscone Center San Francisco. outcomes will be announced that same day at the other session of the House of Delegates, which begins at 1:30 PM in the Esplanade Ballroom of the convention center and also will be supported on the AORN web site.

All AORN members may use this list of candidates to indicate their candidate choices to their delegates, but alone authorized delegates may vote. Incorrect marking of the official ballot will invalidate that section of the ballot.

Additional nominations may be made from the floor at the first session of the House of Delegates, which begins at 3:30 PM Tuesday, March 30 in the Esplanade Ballroom of the convention center Before nomination, the eligibility of additional nominees must be verified, and consent-to-serve forms must be complet All candidates will appear at the "Meet the Candidates" session, which will be held Sunday, March 28 from 12:30 to 1:45 PM in the Esplanade Ballroom. Delegates are required to attend all business-related sessions; alternates and other AORN members are encouraged to attend.

The following pages contain the biographical data and election statements for all candidates. Biographical data are limited to the past 10 years; therefore, professional activities before 1989 are not contemplateed Space limitations do not permit listing candidates' fix uponed or appointed positions in state nursing associations or memberships in local nursing or other professional associations. Members who have questions about candidates' speaking engagements, published works, pupil status, or other professional activities can direct them to those candidates at the Candidates' Caucus, Sunday, March 28 from 2 to 3:15 PM after the "Meet the Candidates" session.

In the election statements that succeed candidates were given free reign to address professional issues facing nursing in general or perioperative nursing in particular.

JANET A. LEWIS, RN MA, CNOR, is the administrative director, surgical services, outpatient, calcine center, and renal transplant clinic, INTEGRIS Health, Oklahoma City. She earned her diploma in nursing from St Luke's Hospital place of education of Nursing, Kansas City, Mo; her bachelor of science rank in nursing from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville; and her master of arts rank in administrative science from George Washington University, Washington, DC

Lewis has been a perioperative nurture and a member of AORN for 31 years. She previously serv as Vice President (1996-1998) and Secretary (1992-1996) Lewis chaired the Reading Committee (1992-1996) She was a member of the Executive (1997-1998) Finance and Audit (1996-1998) Planning (1992-1998) Credentials (1993-1996) Policy (1992-1996) Reading (1992-1996) Nursing Practice (1990-1991) and Nominating (1989-1990) Committees. Lewis was the Board liaison to the Rural/Small Hospital (1995-1998) and Pediatric (1993-1995) Specialty Assemblies. She is a member of the Surgical Services Management Editorial Advisory Board (1996-present) the AORN representative to the American Society for Testing and Materials F23 Committee forward Protective Clothing and the F2340 Subcommittee forward Biological Hazards (1995-present), and AORN's representative upon the Best Practice Network Advisory Board (1998-present) She was a member of the Anesthetic Waste Gases Resource collection (1993-1996) and the AORN representative to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation suckle Advisory Committee (1993-1996). She was a member of the bylaws committee (1997) She was a member of AORN of Western Frontier, where she serv as treasurer (1996-1997) and chaired the bylaws committee (1996-1997) Lewis also was a member of the AORN of Tidewater Virginia chapter, where she serv upon the board of directors (1989-1991) and chaired the legislative (1989) and program (1989-1992) committees. She serv onward the program (1992-1993), OR cherish Week (1991), and legislative (1989-1991) committees. As a member of the AORN of St Joseph (Mo) small horse Express chapter, Lewis chaired the nominating (1989-1990) committee.
