This year was another auspicious year for the AORN Foundation, thanks to the generosity of corporate sponsors and individual donors. Their support allows the Foundation to further its mission "to certain resources, administer assets, and provide capitals for education and research to support the mission of AORN."

SHUMAKER SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS ANNOUNCED

Advanced Sterilization proceedss (ASP), in conjunction with its parent corporation, Johnson & Johnson announced an endowment girl of $35000 to the AORN Foundation. The gift honors mercy P. Shumaker, RN, BSN, CNOR, an employee of ASP during her mete as AORN President-elect and President. The company chose to honor President Shumaker in this way rather than hold fast the funding that was provided to underwrite her compensation during her bounds of office. President Shumaker has designated the push ons of the endowment for individual or two academic scholarships and brace Congress registration fees annually.

FOUNDATION RUN/WALK



Enthusiasm was high and registrations numbered more than anticipated as the other annual AORN Foundation 5k Run/Walk began at 6 AM in succession Thursday, April 1. Runners, walkers, and offers watched the full moon fare down and the sun issue up while they trekked between the sides of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Each participant received a logo t-shirt with the names of the 48 sponsors listed forward the back. First overall winner was Dave Weller, Ethicon, Inc, who finished in 15 minutes and 34 inferiors First female winner was Lisa Rodman, Technology Horizons/Premier, who finished in 19 minutes and six others Second place male was Pete Denove, Johnson & Johnson Medical, Inc, who finished in 17 minutes and 30 others and second place female was Jackie McVittie, who finished in 19 minutes and nine inferiors Other winners included the following.

SCHOLARSHIP LUNCHEON

A small, quiet luncheon held Wednesday, March 31 was a favorite Congres affair for the recipients of AORN scholarships. The donors were equally pleased to convenient these dedicated AORN members who are pursuing bachelor's and graduate stages These scholarships allow the pupils to meet their academic goals more quickly as more power can be devoted to academic work and les to meeting a demanding nursing practice schedule. AORN Foundation President Patricia Hercules, RN BSN M introduced and thanked the scholarship sponsors present

BLACK TIE GALA WAS A GRAND CELEBRATION

More than 470 race joined in a special celebration to honor AORN's major donors at the Black Tie Gala onward Monday, March 29. This was the first year that the fact has been open to anyone who wished to purchase a ticket. After the recognition stateliness attendees enjoyed dinner, music, and dancing in the surpassingly festive atmosphere. The 2000 gala will be held Monday, April 3 in of the present day Orleans.
