Specialty assemblies held meetings at Congres to discuss business and network. The general views of specialty assemblies are to

* stir up communication among RNs with similar work interests,

* provide a forum for networking,

* identify and explore patient care issues,

* forward specialized education, and

* support the mission of AORN.

The majority of the specialty assembly chairs and officers shared governing council election comes and finances and discussed upcoming education adventures and special projects at each of their meetings. At Congres specialty assembly governing councils come up to face to face to identify goals for the upcoming year. They provide updates at Congres business meetings and at education conversations Bonnie Denholm, RN, MS, CNOR, succors as staff consultant for the specialty assemblies.

A priority for all specialty assemblies during the 1999-2000 year is to update their web sites. Congres attendees were encouraged to visit the NetCafe to share information about their web sites and contribute ideas to the potential web site redesign Specialty assembly web sites are accessible by the and of www.aorn.org. AORN publications director Warren Kolber invited all specialty assembly members to contact him if they have questions or ideas about AORN's publications. He also encouraged members to identify parts they would like considered for the AORN Perioperative Bookstore.



Each specialty assembly publishes a newsletter and member directory. Editors are seeking ideas and make easy for each of the newsletter The newsletter editors also encouraged members to solicit manuscripts or pursue people who can write about topics related to their specialties. Members are encouraged to update their e-mail addresses at Headquarters for the directories.

Jan Hixon, RN MA, and Trish O'Neill RN M professional education specialists, AORN Center for Perioperative Education, attended the specialty assembly business meetings to announce upcoming education opportunities available for assembly members. They invited everyone to attend the specialty interviews being held in 1999-2000. Members are asked to endeavor to gain and submit possible speakers for the conversations The Rural/Small Hospital education meeting for consultation will take place in Denver from tribe 24 to 25, 1999. The Ambulatory, Management, and Informatics education meeting for consultation will be held in San Diego from race 29 to Oct 2, 1999 The RN First Assistant Specialty Assembly will qualified in San Antonio June 23 to 26 1999 for an education parley They will also meet in Charlotte, NC Oct 13 to 16 1999 in conjunction with the Pediatric, Advanced Technology: Lasers and Minimally Invasive Surgery Orthopedic, and Neurosurgery Specialty colloquy The Educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist Specialty Assembly will encounter in Denver Oct 26 to 30 1999

ORTHOPEDIC SPECIALTY ASSEMBLY

Approximately 35 members of the Orthopedic Specialty Assembly met to discuss the assembly's business and what is yet to be goals over the 90-minute sponsored luncheon meeting. Chair Patrice Spera, RN M CNOR, announced that assembly membership grew from 573 to 644 as of the expiration of February. Members were invited to check AORN Online, as the assembly's modern web site will be active in a short time Janess Dulinski, RN, CNOR; Cynthia Feeser RN; and Theresa Russell, RN all won liberated membership to the specialty assembly for undivided year. Deborah Gering, RN, CNOR, will assume responsibility as chair in 1999-2000

PEDIATRIC SPECIALTY ASSEMBLY

Estella Harrington, RN CNOR, presided across the meeting of approximately 30 of the 220 members of the Pediatric Specialty Assembly. The members discussed plans for distribution of an assembly directory and a research grant application. The research plan on attitudes of parent demeanor during anesthesia induction at exquisiteed pediatric hospitals will be submitted for funding.
