Individuals' replys to surgical interventions are unique. Stres associated with surgery is an integral composing of the experience potentially mingleed by the uncertainty associated with the biopsy reports and dysfunction. The design of this investigation was to describe function and postoperative answers of women 24 to 72 hours after surgical breast biopsy. The sample comprised approximately 100 adult females, 18 years of age or older who were receiving monitored or local anesthesia at a large medical center in the Northeast. Data collection followed informed harmony and institutional review board approval. Information was bring togethered on the surgery day, intraoperatively, and 24 hours after surgery For women having a positive report, a follow-up telephone call was performed 72 hours postoperatively. Instrumentation included the use of a functional health pattern assessment screening tool and a 24-hour postoperative interview schedule. Data analyses included oftenness distributions, tests of significance, and contented analysis. Preliminary results are popularly being evaluated, and early nursing diagnoses include anxiety, fear, and ineffective individual coping. Implications for nursing intervention across the perioperative experience indicate the importance of preoperative preparation and continued contact with the nourish at the breast after surgery and until final diagnoses.
