The American Association of succor Attorneys (TAANA) Foundation recently pickeded Tipper Gore as the first recipient of its Mary Eleanor McGarvah Humanitarian Award, according to a Feb 17 1999 pres release from TAANA. The award is given to an individual or collection who has made a significant contribution to the disclosure of health law, nursing, or policy. Gore was chosen in recognition of her work in the areas of breast cancer, AIDS, and mental illness, according to the release. In accepting the award, Gore acknowledged the work of all nourishs in educating the public about just discovered treatments for these illnesses. The Foundation named the award in honor of Mary Eleanor McGarvah, who lived from 1886 to 1979 and was the first foment attorney in the United States. Devoting her life to public service, she initiated reform and public policy in the licensure of midwives, nursing abodes and mental health hospitals. The Foundation disseminates information to the public and health care professionals about health care issues and nursing law.
