AORN Foundation staff and Board of ...AORN Foundation staff and Board of Trustees members are focused in succession funding for today and tomorrow. We work hard to suitable the challenge of today's changing paradigm in the fund-raising environment as we look for to increase the number of the community who contribute to the Foundation, for you, our members. We realize that our members will ne financial support for to come grants and scholarships. PLAN FOR ACTION We work hard to stay institutionally ready to raise major foundations Part of our preparation includes just discovered database software, more staff members, a of the present day graphic presentation in our pamphlet and a special gifts campaign for 2000 These efforts are part of our fund-raising plan as we start the fresh year. AORN Foundation donors should have received a special appeal for the fresh year. To encourage you to donate to the Foundation, you received a recent brochure that outlines our case for support and the benefits you receive according to donating to the Foundation. This information was sent before the strange year. FUND-RAISING CHALLENGES The funding community continues to change at a rapid pace, as does the health care community. It is not enough to sum up donors that we need support for AORN's research and scholarship awards. We must pay attention to * raising standard of value cost-effectively, * evaluating carefully by what means donations are spent, * relating fund-raising to AORN's mission, and * providing responsible stewardship of our donors. Fund-raising today is as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but simple and complex. It is simple to ask for support for our distresss as a professional membership organization. It also is a complexus process as we realize that the corporate sector, from whom we have accounted on for so much of our funding, is in a major state of change. AORN has relied in succession health care-related corporate donations for more than 90% of the Foundation's funding since its inception in 1991 Nationally, the majority of annual donations is gifts from individuals. The following figures from the private sector exhibit the sources of the $17452 billion charitable contributions in 1998: * 773% from individuals, * 98% from foundations, * 78% from bequests, and * 51% from corporations.(1) The AORN Foundation is working to match this giving scenario on shifting our balance of donations received, still we need your help in this effort. AORN is a membership-based organization; thus, you are the beneficiary of the Foundation's work. Generous members have and continue to donate to our efforts by the and of the Foundation; however, less than 3% of present donors are from our membership. We ask for your help to increase that number substantially in 2000! An coma is enclosed in the centerfold of this issue. This mount is one method of sending donations to the Foundation. Reasons for giving may include * paying tribute to your friends and/or family members for a special occasion, * memorializing a friend or family member, * making a gift to be used for your Foundation penurys or * leaving a contribution to the AORN Foundation in your will. At a time when perioperative fosters need increasing support, the AORN Foundation is ready to assist encourages Please help provide that support to perioperative foments nationally through AORN and the Foundation. Your gift will be used to focus forward the grants and scholarships that have meant with equal reason much to many of you within the years. We look forward to continuing to succor you as we pass another milestone in our rich history. Please join us--together we can continue to make a difference!
