through every part of the last 50 years, AORN has had four different logo each featuring common hand placing an instrument into another hand. The first three logo were more literal depictions, whereas the united used today is more of a graphic representation.

The original logo initially was documented upon the cover of the first national conversation program in 1954. At this time, all AORN chapters were referr to as separate associations; thus, the logo reads "Associations." Records do not indicate who designed the logo or by what means it was commissioned.

Although Congres delegates did not formally decide to form a freestanding Association of Operating play Nurses until 1957, the logo forward the cover of the inferior conference program looked identical to the first the same but referred to a singular "Association."

AORN changed the typeface and position of the literal meanings in 1961. Again, there is no documentation regarding the reasons or proces of the minor change. Interestingly, the typeface that appears forward the 1961 Congress program differs slightly from that forward the 1961 letterhead that was used when Headquarters was located in Edith D Hall's recently made known York City apartment.

The logo as we know it today was designed in 1966 for a remuneration of $300 by a recently made known York freelance artist, Charles Goslin, who was commissioned on AORN's Executive Director, Marion Parker. There is no mention of Board seek information from in the Board minutes. Goslin also designed the AORN Journal secretes at that time.

According to Board minutes, the logo design was not revisited until November 1975 when a recommendation from Executive Director Jerry G matchs to phase out the now passing logo because it was too "technique oriented" was deferr A notation in the March 1976 pre-Congres Board minutes indicates that the Board wished to retain the logo It is not clear by what mode the logo issue arrived at the House of Delegates upon March 11, 1976, where the House minutes read, "Considerable make anxious of new lettering and retaining the original AORN logo was exhibited at a great number of delegates." In separate voting, however, delegates vot to retain the 1966 AORN logo

The logo's greatest in number recent scrutiny in the House of Delegates occurr in 1982 when members of AORN of the Gold Coast of California introduced a resolution that the logo was "indicative of simply the technical aspects" of perioperative nursing and that the part of perioperative nurses had expanded to include all perioperative aspects of care. Despite this rationale, their resolution that the logo be redesigned "to better ponder this expansion of professional responsibilities" was defeated.
