the same type of ultrasound shows promise in treating uterine fibroids (ie, benign tumors of the uterine lining), according to an Oct 5 1999 pres release from Reuter Health. Researchers from the University of Washington denomination of Medicine, Seattle, and University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Houston, evaluated high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in treating uterine fibroid tumors in mice. After the same treatment, tumors completely shrank in 16 of 28 animals, and partial shrinkage occurr in 11 treated animals, according to the release. If approved for human application of mind this procedure may be a treatment for the 25% of women in the United States who cause to grow these tumors. Investigators say this treatment is unique because it put an end tos tissue three-dimensionally without damaging other tissue.
