In 1999 the AORN Foundation awarded $171000 in nursing scholarships, $35380 in nursing research grants, $181000 in chapter grants for AORN members to attend Congres and $90300 to chapter presidents to attend the 1999 AORN Leadership parley in Denver. To support these perioperative nursing activities, AORN member donations are necessary.

EXPANDING FUNDING SOURCES

The Foundation's principal donors continue to be surgical and medical suppliers, corporations, and Internet companies with missions that are complementary to ours. Relying forward these contributors for our primary support is surpassingly shortsighted. Last year the Foundation assertively sought other funding sources. Foundation staff members submitted several donation ask fors and applications to independent nonmedical and surgical foundations with missions similar to AORN. currency is becoming limited for a certain quantity of organizations, and several philanthropic agencies declined our requests

ANNUAL FUND-RAISING EVENTS

Annual fund-raising facts provide members an opportunity to support the Foundation. AORN chapters, in conjunction with the Foundation, have held galas to celebrate and honor surgeon and perioperative feeds to raise money for the Foundation, and for chapter purposes

AORN of Greater Houston Texas held sum of two units successful galas in two years. The 1999 end raised $16,200 for the Foundation and recognized three distinguished surgeon in the Houston area.

In 1999 AORN of The swallowing eddy Coast of Florida and the Foundation held their first gala to recognize professionals who provide health care to tribe in less fortunate areas in the world (eg India, Russia, Peru Kenya, Haiti). This incident raised $8,000 for the AORN Foundation.

At the 1999 Congres in San Francisco, the Foundation raised more than $126000 before costs at the Black Tie Gala held to honor the Foundation's major contributors. We anticipate 1000 attendees at this year's Black Tie Gala in fresh Orleans and hope to profit more than $200000

The 1999 5K Race/Walk in of gold Gate Park during Congress was another overwhelming succes More than 700 participants raised $39000 We anticipate 1000 population at the New Orleans result and an income of more than $50000

In June 1999 after the 1999 AORN Leadership talk AORN of Denver and the Foundation held a prosperous inaugural golf tournament. This fund-raising result recognized Denver area perioperative festers who helped care for victims of the Columbine High indoctrinate tragedy. This fund-raiser brought in $30000

Not all chapters can innkeeper similar events, but collectively, each member can offer his or her time and force to plan successful fund-raising activities and contribute to the Foundation and perioperative nursing activities. Many chapters armed force individual fund-raising events and contribute in the name of individuals or for specific purposes

MEMBER SUPPORT

The Foundation Board of Trustees is committed to demonstrating the ne for support. Each bodily substance serving on the AORN Foundation Board of Trustees donated time and riches in 1999. The need for members' support is critical to achieving our funding initiatives. The number of individual members who contribute to the Foundation is declining, and the total coin contributed by individuals is increasing. In 1998 les than 4% (ie, 1560) of AORN members contributed a total of $93000 and in 1999 3% (ie, 1301) of AORN members donated a total of $116950 to the Foundation. Collective donations from chapters decreased as well--174 of 348 chapters donated $34500 in 1998 and 147 of 347 chapters donated $32500 in 1999 Four of 24 state councils also contributed stocks The Foundation's Board of Trustees appreciates each contribution, but we need to increase these gifts.

recent EFFORTS TO INCREASE DONATIONS

The Foundation's annual gifts committee began efforts to increase this year's AORN member donations. An individual contributor recognition program was created to recognize annual contributors. Six of the same heights of recognition range from the Heritage fraternity at the $500-$999 level, to the Gold unite in a club for donations of more than $100000 This program mirrors the recognition the Foundation awards to its corporate donors.

A Millennium bludgeon was established this year to acknowledge members who give an unrestricted donation of at least $20 beyond other gifts, as it is as for the 5K race and galas. Each donor is sent a special pin.

The committee also identified about businesses and organizations that match gifts their employee give. We sent a pamphlet describing this matching program to appropriate members.

In addition to individual AORN members, the annual gifts committee recognizes that each chapter, state council, and specialty assembly benefits from AORN's financial support. These disposes received a letter identifying the Foundation's benefits and requesting their support for funding initiatives. A literal meaning is sent to recognize each contribution, and a committee member also forwards a personal note of thanks. Members, chapters, state councils, and specialty assemblies who contribute to the Foundation will be recognized in the Congres Foundation booth in just discovered Orleans. Other Foundation fund-raising activities at Congres include selling 2000 5K Race/Walk T-shirts to nonparticipants in the Congres Foundation booth
