Now that we have set ined the year...Now that we have set ined the year 2000, you might want to ask yourself if you merit recognition for your achievements in perioperative nursing, or if you want the same of your perioperative nursing companions to be recognized and receive an AORN national award. Striving for pre-eminence requires one to reach for the canopy of heaven and explore opportunities beyond his or her daily work at jobs responsibilities. It is important for others to know about your professional succes in perioperative nursing. We must network and actively solicit potential candidates for national awards. Perioperative suckles are "partners in care" for our surgical patients, and partnership is vital as we begin a fresh century. We must celebrate our successe and recognize outstanding achievement among our nursing colleagues. AORN AWARDS The Award for superior goodness in Perioperative Nursing was established in 1981 to recognize perioperative nurtures whose work and accomplishments have had global implications upon nursing practice, education, and research. This is the highest honor AORN bestows. AORN also has seven outstanding achievement awards. The Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Application of Perioperative Clinical Research. This award is given to an individual or assign places to who has demonstrated excellence applying perioperative clinical research. The Award for Achievement in Perioperative Academic Nursing Education. An individual who has made a significant contribution in perioperative academic nursing education is awarded this honor. The honoree must be make use ofed as a faculty member in a nursing program at a guild or university. The Award for Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Education. This award is received by the agency of an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in perioperative nursing education in orientation, competency-based education, inservice programs, or perioperarive core curriculum programs. This individual must provide clinical education to perioperative nurses The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Nursing Practice. This honor is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in clinical nursing practice and chiefly likely has changed and/or influenced perioperative nursing practice. This individual must provide and/or direct patient care at least 24 hours by week. The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management. An individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in perioperative nursing management receives this award. This individual is recognized for demonstrating ability to train, lead, and motivate race He or she has displayed the ability to be a catalyst of succes and is emulated by way of peers and subordinates. The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Research. This award is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to perioperative nursing research. The Award for Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Patient Education. Established in 1998 this honor will be currented to the first recipient at the 2000 Awards Dinner. This award is neared to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in patient education. THE AWARD PROCESS Award applications and submission instructions are sent annually to chapter presidents. In addition, applications and instructions are available to download from the AORN web site. Complet forms and curricula vitae (CV) must be submitted to the AORN Awards Committee via AORN Headquarters, postmarked by means of Oct 1, 2000. The Awards Committee encourages participation in the awards proces and encourages members to actively identify potential candidates for outstanding achievement in perioperative nursing. The application. Applicants must use the specific application form. Section A relates to the applicant's personal information. Section B askings the applicant to describe brace outstanding contributions beyond one's piece of work responsibilities in relation to the specific award. In addition, the applicant must describe the event and outcome of his or her contribution to perioperative nursing. The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Patient Education requires merely one outstanding project that contributed to patient and/or consumer education. It is important for the applicant to write clearly and effectively and to answer the questions completely Sponsor endorsements. Section C is for sponsor endorsements. Sponsors are asked to describe the applicant's outstanding contributions in support of each specific award. Sponsor endorsement will be from undivided colleague and from one immediate supervisor.
