single in kind year ago in this file I stated my belief that the best way that I could advance you, the members, would be to articulate to others to what extent important perioperative nurses are to patients, consumer partners, and providers. I have "bent" a destiny of ears this year! My belief is an extension of the underlying principle that AORN exists to assist its members in advocating for patients, anticipating and meeting society's health care indigences and exerting a global influence to advance and shelter quality perioperative services. These ideas are museed in our strategic goals and the activities of members, the Board of Directors, and Headquarters staff members. In my final message, I would like to highlight a certain number of goals and the new and creative initiatives accomplished during the past year.

Strategic goal 1: AORN will be recognized as the primary source of information for patients, consumer and providers in the delivery of quality surgical care. single of the initiatives related to this goal was the publication of a work on AORN's Perioperative Nursing Data station (PNDS). A growing number of PNDS-related presentations and articles contributes to greater recognition of--and regard for--this important achievement on data plant development. Additional new communication mechanisms to realize this goal include the "Headquarters Report" published in the January 2000 AORN Journal; AORN's Corporate Report, which describes our organization to a broad portion of the health care community; and "E-Shop" which is AORN's e-commerce site for fresh and renewing members and others who are seeking AORN returnss and services.

AORN also proactively incorporated Internet technology into many of its initiatives. Our web-based communication forum, MemberTalk, swells daily. A new online feature includes Surgical Services Management indexes and links to search engines and major health care sites. AORN's recent electronic "Press Office" on AORN Online features common news releases, information about members who have received pres coverage, and forms for pres representatives to petition for information about AORN.

Media contacts to our public relations throw out manager doubled this year.
