The 12 specialty assemblies held business meetings during Congres week to review their progres and discuss upcoming plans. These arranges are designed to help AORN members come together and share interests with other succors in specialized areas of perioperative care.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY: LASERS AND MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY SPECIALTY ASSEMBLY

Members of the Advanced Technology: Lasers and Minimally Invasive Surgery Specialty Assembly met Wednesday, April 5 2000 for the assembly's business meeting. In an informal setting, governing council and specialty assembly members discussed potential research projects

Denholm reported there are 235 members in the specialty assembly. Chair Nancy Fox RN BA, CNOR, asked members for input in succession new recruiting ideas.



Fox encouraged members to submit their ideas and articles for the newsletter modern incoming governing council members Jeri Murray, RN BSN CNOR, CPSN and Judy Henderson, RN CNOR, will be coeditors of the newsletter working with the passing from hand to hand newsletter editor, Carolyn Rogalla, RN

The nearest specialty conference will be held Oct 26 to 28 2000 in lengthy Beach, Calif. The fall 2001 specialty interview will be in St Louis, and the fall 2002 conversation tentatively is scheduled to be held in Las Vegas.

PEDIATRIC SPECIALTY ASSEMBLY

Members of the Pediatric Specialty Assembly met Monday, April 3 2000 Laurie Mitchell, RN EdD CNOR, chair, reported that there are 206 members in the specialty assembly, and she asked for input onward how to retain and increase membership. Dr Mitchell also spoke about the research intend "Attitude of staff towards parental appearance during induction at selected pediatric institutions," which is in the approval stage. It was announced that the governing council will be downsizing to seven members.

Dr Mitchell existinged Ken Ericson from Augustine Medical with a certificate of appreciation for Augustine's continued support. Augustine Medical has been a sponsor of the specialty assembly newsletter for the past couple years.

Jane Murphy RN M CPNP reported that Patricia Maxwell, RN will be the incoming newsletter editor and web liaison. Murphy encouraged members to submit ideas and articles. Murphy was recognized for her many contributions to the specialty assembly.

The nearest specialty conference will be held Oct 26 to 28 2000 in extended Beach, Calif. Members were asked to submit possible speakers' names for the conference

CARDIOTHORACIC SPECIALTY ASSEMBLY

More than 40 Cardiothoracic Specialty Assembly members attended the assembly's Tuesday, April 4 2000 business meeting. Chair Patty Chapek, RN B CNOR, not awayed Jamie Collins from Augustine Medical with a certificate of appreciation for the company's continued support of the newsletter and web page. Augustine Medical has been a sponsor since 1998

Penny Renwick, RN CNOR, CRNFA, reported that the specialty assembly is in the proces of refining its research contrive The project will involve the forces of herbal remedies, specifically ginkoba, in the possible increase of intraoperative bleeding.

Chapek talked with attendees about the status of their performance standards. AORN changed the name of the standards to competencies and reckon upons at least a two-year validation period.

NEUROSURGERY SPECIALTY ASSEMBLY

Members of the Neurosurgery Specialty Assembly met Wednesday, April 5 2000 for the assembly's business meeting. Incoming chair Kaye McLain, RN MSN CNOR, ONC l the meeting and asked members to consider running for the governing council. She introduced novel governing council member Loraine Van Horn, RN CNOR, who will act as treasurer, and reported that there now are 318 members in the specialty assembly. McLain recognized Medtronic/Midas Rex for the company's sponsorship of the newsletter and web page.

Bonnie Denholm RN M CNOR, AORN specialty assembly coordinator, announced the possibility of publishing neurosurgery satisfied in the AORN Journal and entreatyed that members submit topic ideas for the make easy of a future neurosurgery volume The next step for developing the part is to conduct a literature search for information that commonly exists.
