Academic, scientific, and patient health organizations are reaffirming their commitment to provide the safest environment possible for patients participating in clinical research, according to a June 8 2000 moderns release from the Association of American Medical society s (AAMC). A proclamation collaboratively expanded by the AAMC and the National Health Council (NHC) titled "Clinical research: A reaffirmation of trust between medical science and the public" has been endorsed from more than 300 organizations.

According to Jordan J Cohen, AAMC president, fresh events have shaken the trust between researchers and their patients. The AAMC, in conjunction with NHC issued the proclamation to strengthen this foundation of trust, as it is crucial to the advancement of science and the delivery of quality health care.

Those organizations who endorse the proclamation security to uphold and ensure

* the principles of beneficence, justice, and esteem for individuals;

* the rights of patients and the responsibilities of researchers;

* the inviolable trust of informed assent freely given by anyone who proffers to participate in research;

* that no coercion whatsoever, financial or otherwise, is used to induce patients to note into or to remain in a research shoot forward and that patients have full freedom of choice as to whether to withdraw from a research activity;

* that the potential benefits to the individual and society exce any known risks before studies involving human subdues research begin;

* the provision of adequate resources, training, and oversight for, and the creation of a climate of support and regard for institutional review boards, which play a critical part in ensuring the integrity of research involving human subdues and in the federally mandated proces for monitoring research protections; and

* revere for and adherence to other sways laws, and recognized codes that generally guide the ethical direction of research.

According to the release, federal regulations generally exist to govern clinical research, and AMCC is working to inform and educate the research community about these regulations. The AAMC has armyed a national conference as well as several regional educational workshops, in collaboration with Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research, addressing the issue of human subdue protection.
