At the June 2000 meeting of the American Medical Association (AMA), AORN was recognized as an "official observer" according to a July 21 2000 recents release from AORN. As an official keeper AORN may send a representative to AMA's semi-annual house of delegates meetings, yet that person may not vote the one and the other organizations advocate high quality and safe patient care. The AMA is the patient's advocate and the physicians' voice, and it plants standards for the medical profession. As an official watcher AORN is expected to "add a unique perspective or bring expertise to the deliberations of [AMA's] house of delegates." "This recognition gives AORN an opportunity to work with physician colleagues in a more formal manner," said Pat Palmer, RN M MNM CAE, AORN Executive Director. "We join the AMA in its endeavors to assure patient safety and access to health care in this country" AORN Recognized as Official regarder at AMA Meetings (news release, Denver: AORN, Inc, July 21 2000) 1-2 COPYRIGHT 2000 Association of Operating place Nurses, Inc.
