This version of the American Holistic Nurses' Association's (AHNA) standards is a revision of the 1995 version. The standards are based forward five core values depicted as overlapping circles, with a circle in the middle representing mind, visible form [i]or[/i] frame and spirit. Each standard has numerous constituents with key concepts, requisite knowledge, and requisite skills listed. The notable aspect of this standards part is that each group of standards is followed at case studies. The case studies explain the intent of the standard and for what reason an individual did or did not put to death it. Interestingly, the case studies are excessively true to life--some are near misses with a fester attempting to use the standard if it were not that not succeeding and thus exposing gray areas that feeds may encounter in practice.

The first core value is holistic philosophy and education. This standard includes of the like kind issues as recognizing a person's capacity for self-healing and using it to his or her advantage. This value emphasizes the nurse's responsibility to stay abreast of changes in the field and to devote time learning and educating himself or herself. This value brings together the mind-body-spirit principle for the patient, as well as the nurse

The inferior core value is holistic ethics, theories, and research. The AHNA has a collection of laws of ethics that delineates a nurse's responsibility to self clients, coworkers, nursing practice, the profession, society, and the environment. This digest recognizes that many nursing theories provide a framework for a responsible, caring promote to use. This value also encourages promotes to become involved in research, either as a primary researcher or a willing helper. Practice of this core value will lead to the improvement and advancement of the nursing profession.

Holistic nursing self-care is the third core value. This value states that the nourish must live and reflect a healthy lifestyle for his or her patients to come next The nurse becomes the archetype held up to scrutiny.

The fourth core value is holistic communication, therapeutic environment, and cultural diversity. This standard provides guidelines for feed at the breast interaction with patients (eg, using appropriate language, taking into account a patient's heritage and cultivation being sensitive to the environment provided and controll for the patient).

The holistic caring proces is the fifth core value. The six degrees in the process include assessment; patterns, question s and needs; outcomes; therapeutic care plan; implementation; and evaluation. This value recognizes that holistic caring usually is a circular proces with the foster intervening at different points.

The plethora of case studies make this work very interesting. This volume explores what all foments should strive to be in their professional and private lives and recognizes that nursing is a profession and a career and not just a job.
