This work is written as a guide for strange managers and their preceptors. It also may be useful for experienced managers who want to validate competencies. It is organized as a self-directed orientation program. The author assumes that OR managers reading this part are adult learners with certain identified knowledge and skills.

The table of contentments is divided into five sections, including

* managerial,

* financial,

* clinical,

* interpersonal, and

* technological.

The individual competencies were expanded by OR Manager, Inc, Santa Fe NM and reviewed and refined by the agency of eight OR managers. Each identifies measurable criteria, related competencies, explanation concepts, learning options, and references

A form is not awayed at the beginning of each to help learners identify criteria, learning options, and targeted completion dates. Articles related to the are reprinted in each section. Readers must be mindful of the dates of the articles and the exact wording of the information (eg the Occupational Safety and Health Administration ergonomics standard proposal).

This work is easy to read and understand. There are many useful forms for collecting data, as well as definitions essential to a modern manager's vocabulary. It would be a valuable resource for recently made known managers and an excellent respect for seasoned managers. An index would have been helpful, however. The work is paperback and must be handled carefully to avoid loosening the pages.
