Saturday, March 10 2001 The AORN ...Saturday, March 10 2001 The AORN awards for outstanding accomplishments during the past year will be at handed at the Awards Dinner to be held Saturday, March 10 at 6:30 PM at the 2001 Congres in Dallas. For more information regarding the dinner, please papal court "Congress highlights" in this issue of the Journal. Recipients of individual outstanding achievement, chapter, and writers awards will be recognized. OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS The outstanding achievement awards this year recognize * Joan M Spear, RN MBA, CNOR, Award for good point in Perioperative Nursing; * Grace A. Muro RN MSN CNOR, and Rose E Seavey, RN MBA, CNOR, Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Education; * Ann T McKennis, RN CNOR, CORLN, Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Patient Education; * Susan V M Kleinbeck, RN PhD CNOR, Outstanding Achievement in the Application of Perioperative Clinical Research; * Teresa A. Delarose, RN MN EdD CNOR, Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Academic Nursing Education; and * Charlotte Guglielmi, RN BSN CNOR, Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Practice. For more information about the outstanding achievement awards, please contact Judy Hawkins, RN CNOR, chair of the Awards Committee, or Lorrie Briggs, staff consultant, at (800) 755-2676 x 367 CHAPTER OF THE YEAR AWARD For the 2001 Congres members of the Membership, Legislative, and Research Committees and the National Committee forward Education selected five categories for chapters to struggle in for the Chapter of the Year Awards. These Committee members solicited chapters to whole individual surveys, scored the inspects and submitted the point scores to the Awards Committee. Points are collated and evaluated by means of members of the Awards Committee who use the composite points to determine the award recipients. Chapter of the Year Awards recognize winners in each chapter size category (ie, small, medium, intermediate, large). Each category may have a gold silver, and assurance winner. A chapter may be the recipient of the Chapter of the Year Award (ie, gold) in its size category no other than once every three years; however, chapters may be chosened for the silver or brown awards in consecutive years. MEMBERSHIP AWARDS Four membership awards are not absented each year. One chapter from each size category receives a commemorative token to recognize its outstanding achievements. All chapters, regardless of size, are eligible for these awards. Selection criteria for winners are based upon such factors as chapter management, membership marketing strategies, and chapter services. Winners are chosen by means of the Membership Committee. Information is obtained from answers to a questionnaire regarding chapter activities and achievements from July 1 to June 30 Chapter presidents receive the questionnaires at the finis of the fiscal year. The deadline for returning them to Headquarters is Oct 1 each year. CHAPTER RESEARCH AWARDS The Chapter Research Awards are designed to recognize and congratulate chapters for their research activities during the past year. scrutinize information is solicited from each chapter, and the flows are scored according to predetermined criteria. Chapter observes are due to the Nursing Research Committee by way of Oct 1 each year. The chapters scoring the highest number of points' in each of the four chapter size categories receive a commemorative Chapter Research Award. The awards remain with the chapters as recognition of the chapters' nursing research activities. CHAPTER NEWSLETTER AWARDS Four awards (ie, individual in each size category) are existinged to recognize outstanding achievement in newsletter satisfied and design. To be eligible for this award, chapter leaders must submit a newsletter that was printed between July 1 and June 30 before the deadline of Oct 1 each year. Winners are chosen by means of the Membership Committee. AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN CONTINUING EDUCATION The Continuing Education Approval Committee sponsors the AORN Chapter Continuing Education Award. The award recognizes chapters that have demonstrated their commitment to quality continuing education for perioperative foments through creative, informative, relevant, and innovative activities approved according to AORN. Approved activities presented between July 1 1999 and June 30 2000 are eligible. Selection criteria are based upon chapters' descriptions of the impact of their activities. The Committee chosens winners from four categories based in succession chapter size. Award recipients will be recognized by way of press releases sent to newspapers of the winners' choice and will receive achievement certificates. WRITERS strive to hold AWARDS The Writers debate Awards recognize authors of quality AORN Journal articles. There are four categories for this contest--clinical/ambulatory, research, education, and management. At least common author of a manuscript must be an AORN member for the article to be considered for an award.
