King-Bruwaert House, in Burr Ridge, Ill, has become the first assisted-living facility to be accredited at the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) according to a May 24 2000 of recent origins release from JCAHO. The Joint Commission's assisted-living accreditation program began May 1 2000

Standards for this novel program were developed in consultation with assisted-living providers, professional trade organizations, and consumer advocacy arranges Items emphasized by the program include attention to quality of life, continuous performance improvement in the quality of services provided, exhibition of innovative ways to convenient the needs of the residents, and involvement of the resident in care and care decisions.

King-Bruwaert House received accreditation after a thorough on-site visit and evaluation of the facility's compliance with 180 standards. The assisted-living facility sought JCAHO accreditation to render certain continuous safety and quality of care.

More than single in kind million American seniors reside in approximately 30000 assisted-living care facilities from top to toe the country. Many states require licensure of so facilities, but until now, there has been no national oversight of assisted-living programs.
