Perioperative fosters must consistently oversee the OR environment to make sure safe, cost-effective, and quality clinical care. Quality issues require patient-focused actions based forward standards that incorporate the best systems and practices. Recently, the use of nonlatex surgical glove has been introduced to the perioperative environment because of increased reports of latex allergy among perioperative staff members.(1) Little is known, however, about the performance of nonlatex glove in surgery

To address this lack of information, a federally permanent funded research study is being implemented in 23 ORs at a major university hospital in Baltimore. The plan is designed to test the quality of nonlatex surgical glove after use. Effective implementation of this intend has required intense collaboration by means of perioperative staff members, surgeons, and pamper researchers. This article focuses forward the data collection methods and challenges perioperative staff members have contested during the collection period.

OVERVIEW

Sterile surgical glove are used to countenance patients and health care workers (HCWs) from infection during surgery and to shield HCW from prospect to bloodborne pathogens. * Do nonlatex surgical glove propose the same barrier protection for HCW as latex surgical gloves?

* Do nonlatex surgical glove provide more or les HCW protection against needle-stick injuries or tears?

* Do HCW find nonlatex surgical glove more acceptable for use in performing routine surgery?

Collaborative research team. The principal investigator assembled a collaborative nursing research team comprising a perioperative clinical promote educator, research nurse coordinator, and laboratory representative. The team also includes a biostatistician and computer technicians to provide statistical and analytical reports and to come into and monitor data.

Each team member is responsible for addressing specific composings of the study and attending weekly research meetings, which the principal investigator schedules to discuss specific issues and determine the best classifications to encourage physician and staff member participation. The principal investigator also has the overall responsibility of coordinating the studious mood data collection, and data analysis. The research nurture coordinator is available every day in the OR to help staff members entire the data collection forms and to aggregate and bring the used glove to the laboratory for testing.
