She has shared responsibility for nursing management and accountability for a 21-room OR suite, as well as for specific services (eg general, urologic, pediatric, gynecologic, fetal, and transplantation surgeries). In her part as program coordinator, she also is responsible for professional evolution and evaluation of nursing staff members and ancillary personnel developing of the present day surgical programs, overseeing control and management of supplies and equipment necessary for surgery and managing the daily OR schedule. Berlandi contribute tos as a resource for various perioperative staff committees. Berlandi believes that perioperative priorities include educational increase and challenges while obtaining relevant and popular information regarding regulatory issues and changes. The AORN Journal, SSM and SSM Online can provide up-to-date information about legal and ethical challenges, legislative information regarding health care, and relevant management information. According to Berlandi, the benefits of AORN publications include sharing research-based nursing practices and available resources and challenging professional issues that advance the profession. She believes that the benefits of subscribing include availability of continuous information that enhances perioperative nursing. Althea Dunscombe, RN PhD CNOR, CRNFA, is president of Professional Assistants PRN Naples, Fla. In that character she is a legal cherish consultant, in addition to being a director, lecturer and instructor in an RN first assistant (RNFA) program. She functions in multiple perioperative characters at the Cleveland Clinic in Naples. Dr Dunscombe believes that the AORN Journal should focus forward providing information to assist staff foments specialty team coordinators, charge suckles RNFAs, and educators in maintaining their perioperative expertise. The fiscal straits of surgical services directors and upper perioperative managers should be addressed in SSM while the newest tends legal issues, and solutions should be put forwarded on SSM Online. Patti Gilliano, RN MSN CNOR, is director of surgical services at Memorial Hospital of Salem shire Salem, NJ. Her responsibilities include leadership building, scheduling personnel and assignments, staff unfolding operations, payroll, performance reviews, counseling, policy revisions, quality indicators, and shoot forward management. Gilliano coordinates activities in interdependent areas, including the OR, same day surgery the postanesthesia care unit (PACU), the preadmission testing area, the endoscopy unit, and the central processing department. She believes that perioperative priorities include developing staff members to achieve their fullest potential in each of her respective work areas. Gilliano focuses forward developing clinical, professional, and business skills to help personnel achieve greater accountability, productivity, and satisfaction. The Journal, SSM and SSM Online are mechanisms for readers to learn from seasoned professionals and then apply their learning foundation to today's pace and technological advances. According to Gilliano, the publications provide diverse information in such a manner clinicians can learn an appreciation for budgeting, managers and leaders can stay generally received with technology and trends, and researchers can stay in touch with practice applications. They also provide information for business clan to grow in appreciation and perception thus allowing them to make serviceable judgments about purchases and batch justifications. Gilliano says that priorities for the publications should include the latest legislation issues, recently made known and expanding roles in the perioperative area, fresh opportunities within health care related to surgical services, documentation, standards of care, clinical pathways, educational articles, research, networking, and contact hours. She believes that readers can stay "in the know" about the latest resources, technology, and educational opportunities to stimulate and challenge the profession.
