Times are changing, and more and more organizations are not accepting social security numbers as a means of identification. In fact, single state is considering legislation to outlaw the use of social security numbers as identification numbers. AORN wishes to be proactive and shelter the privacy of its members; therefore, beginning April 1 2001 AORN no longer will require that members' social security numbers be submitted for verification of contact hours, registration of education activities (eg hearthstone Study Programs, independent studies), or ordering of proceedss or services. The "passcode," a six-digit member identification number used in the AORN database, will be the official identification number for AORN members. strange and renewal membership cards issued after June 2001 will include the strange passcode, along with the social security number. Members' passcodes now are available according to contacting AORN customer service at (800) 755-2676 x 1 or custserv@aorn.org. Members also can ask for that their passcode be sent to them via e-mail by means of visiting AORN's web site at http://www.aorn.org. As of March 1 2001 family circle Study Programs, independent studies, session verification forms, and registration forms will entreaty the new six-digit passcode. Forms received at AORN that were produc before March 1 will be adjusted to make sure the correct information is applied to the correct member.
