The AORN Board of Directors held it...The AORN Board of Directors held its pre-Congres Board meeting at Headquarters Feb 2 and 3 2001 Agenda items included several motions and review of AORN finances and the now passing status of several projects (eg AORN's Surgical Knowledge-base, legislative activities). Items discussed and acted relating to included * committee and task force annual repons * state councils, * fresh award, * propos position statements, * the Governance Task Force, * the International Advisory Board, and * eChapter. COMMITTEE AND TASK FORCE ANNUAL REPORTS The Board of Directors approved the annual reports of all committees and task forces, the Scholarship Board, the Nominating Committee, and 12 specialty assemblies. In addition, they approved annual reports for the sooty vapor Task Force and the AORN Foundation. The members of these committees and task forces are offers who have worked diligently in succession AORN's behalf. A summary of their activities was published in Congres Resources. The AORN Board of Directors appreciates these volunteers' efforts and would like to thank all the committee and task force members for their work in succession behalf of AORN during the past year. STATE COUNCILS The Board of Directors also approved affiliate status for the southward Carolina Council of Perioperative give suck tos (ie, Palmetto Council) and the Texas Council of Operating sweep Nurses. Affiliate status for the of recent origin York State, Oklahoma State, and Pennsylvania State Councils was approved from mail in January 2001. fresh AWARD Board members also approved creating an award for perioperative RN who demonstrate outstanding achievement in mentorship. The Awards Committee generally is working on developing criteria for this award. Board members will discuss these criteria at the June meeting, and the first mentoring award will be instanted at the 2002 AORN Congres in Anaheim, Calif. PROPOS POSITION STATEMENTS Board members approved the Propos AORN Position Statement onward Correct Site Surgery, the Propos AORN Statement upon the Inclusion of Perioperative Nursing Learning Activities in Undergraduate Nursing Curricula, and a Propos Resolution forward Responsibility for Mentoring. Board members also accepted the AORN Guidance Statement: Reuse of Single-use Devices. Position statements will be published in the post-Congres issue of the AORN Journal in June 2001 if they are approved during Congres Approved position statements also are stationed on AORN's web site. GOVERNANCE TASK FORCE The Board ask fored that Donna Watson, RN, MSN CNOR, ARNP, FNP-C chair of the Governance Task Force, give a presentation about the committee's work during the past year at the other Forum at Congress. Member feedback was solicited at that time, and will continue to be solicited during the nearest few months. The work of the task force will continue for at least another year. INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD The International Advisory Board's (IAB) annual report was approved, as was a propos action plan that was instanted to Board members by chair Cynthia sprightly RN, MSN, MA, CNOR, and member Dan Marsh. The goals of the action plan include investigating the feasibility of turn upside down study tours (ie, having international suckles tour US hospitals and experience the US perioperative arena); developing a marketing plan that addresses the potential pro and learn by hearts of translating selected standards and make acceptableed practices into Spanish and then marketing them to Mexico, Chile, and Argentina, and holding the nearest World Conference in 2004. eCHAPTER The eChapter pilot was implemented during Congres 2000 and it will [i]finale[/i] in June 2001. The Board approved eChapter remaining a primary choice for chapter designation, if it be not that also approved a motion that eChapter members must go after standard chapter formation procedures, including developing bylaws, electing officers, attaining tax free status, reviewing bylaws annually, and seating delegates at Congres among other things. These courses must be followed if eChapter members want all the rights and privileges that accompany formal chapter recognition. OTHER ACTIONS Board members also approved items via mail between meetings. These approved items include * commended Practices for Positioning the Patient in the Perioperative Practice Setting, * commended Practices for Reducing Radiological exposing in the Practice Setting, * commited Practices for Maintaining a Sterile Field, * 2001-2002 Committee appointments, and * data fields for generic perioperative intraoperative documentation. nearest MEETING Board members met immediately following Congres forward March 16. The next meeting of the 2001-2002 AORN Board of Directors will take place June 22 and 23 2001 before the AORN Leadership talk in Washington, DC.
