VietAid, an organization that supplies equipment for medical and educational ends sponsored a trip March 14 to 24 2001 to Vietnam to visit the dedication of the Sharon Lane Memorial Clinic, Tam Hiep, Vietnam, according to a pamphlet from the organization. Sharon Lane, RN 1 LT was the solitary servicewoman killed by hostile fire during the Vietnam War. forward June 8, 1969, a rocket landed in the combine where the 312th Evacuation Hospital, Chu Lai, Vietnam, was located and where Lane was working.

The memorial clinic was built in Tam Hiep as it is the closest destitute community to the Chu Lai base where Lane was killed. The trip was l through retired nurse Kathleen Fennel, RN CNOR, and retired Col Jane Carson. The trip also allowed the physicians in the cluster the opportunity to mentor Vietnamese physicians.
