The National Institute onward Disability and Rehabilitation Research has given the University of Pittsburgh a $16 million grant to establish a type center on spinal cord injury, according to a Dec 6 2000 recently made knowns release from the University of Pittsburgh exercise of the Health Sciences. The project of this center is to escort research about a new generation of wheelchairs and assistive devices to improve mobility and independence for the public with spinal cord injuries. The first of its kind in this region, the center will be known as the University of Pittsburgh pattern Center on Spinal Cord Injury (UPMC-SCI). single programs that can demonstrate good quality in the treatment of family with spinal cord injuries are awarded pattern centers. This is one of no other than two model centers awarded in 2000 The UPMC-SCI will work the two independently and in collaboration with 15 protoplast centers throughout the United States to improve care for patients with spinal cord injuries. The UPMC-SCI will establish a continuum of care from necessity response at the scene of injury, to acute care at a UPMC health body hospital, to rehabilitation at a UPMC rehabilitation hospital. The center also will implement several research plans that will concentrate on to what degree innovations in assistive technology can mould the extent of patient's disabilities.
