More than 400 AORN members gathered at the San Diego Convention Center onward Saturday, March 20, 2004, to attend the Awards Dinner. President Betty J Shultz RN CNOR, began the evening according to introducing members of AORN's Board of Directors, her family members in attendance, Awards Committee members, and the Congres proffer coordinator. She also acknowledged Kurt Jone the AORN staff member whose original artwork was used for the awards program. In addition to the award for good quality awards were given for outstanding achievement, chapters, staff recognition, and the AORN Journal Writers contend for The top recruiter from the member ambassador program and the winners of the encourage in Washington Internship scholarships also were recognized.

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE



AORN's Award for superior quality in Perioperative Nursing is given to a member whose work and accomplishments affect perioperative nursing forward a global level. This year's winner is Patricia Seifert, RN MSN CNOR, CRNFA, FAAN, or as President Shultz called her, the "goddes of cardiovascular." During her 27 years as a perioperative nurture Seifert has made numerous contributions to the profession. individual is the publication of the main division Cardiac Surgery, which educates clinicians about traditional and newer technologies used in cardiac surgery Another is publishing upon the subject of ethical principles and their application to nursing practice, including several articles in the AORN Journal.

In addition to the leadership characters Seifert has held in AORN, including the presidency from 1999 to 2000 and passing from hand to hand membership on AORN's Presidential Commission forward Patient Safety, Seifert is involved in nursing activities outside of AORN. In 2000 she was pitch uponed to lead the new Nursing Organizations Alliance, a coalition of nursing organizations united to create a firm voice for nurses. Seifert serv as the first chair of this organization. Of Seifert, individual colleague said, "I look to Trish as a part model, as a clinician, nursing leader, and mentor."

concerning receiving the award, Seifert read a Haiku metrical composition she wrote dedicated to perioperative nursing. In closing, she said, "I thank the perioperative foments and our great organization--AORN--who have inspired me for above two decades."

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Seven AORN members were honored from their colleagues with awards for outstanding achievement. Helen Pumphrey RN CNOR, AORN of Pacific Cascade Washington, received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Management, an award sponsored according to SSM Online. A member of AORN since 1968 Pumphrey is recognized at her colleagues as "the leader united dreams of working for at a certain number of time in their career."

The recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Education was Barbara Rusynko, RN MS CNOR, AORN of Northern Virginia. Rusynko implemented a perioperative fellowship program in her facility with no other than three months lead time.

The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Clinical Nursing Practice was bestowed forward Jane Flowers, RN, MSN, CNOR, AORN of the Lower Eastern Shore. A perioperative give suck to for 23 years, Flowers actively solicits to introduce new nurses to perioperative nursing, molding and shaping them.

Suzanne Beyea, RN PhD FAAN, AORN of of the present day Hampshire, received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Research. Dr Beyea has wearied much time promoting structured terminology for perioperative nursing practice and making presentations at local, national, and international evens on the Perioperative Nursing Data Set

The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Perioperative Nursing Patient Education was given to Sharon Cain Jimison, RN CNOR, AORN of North Carolina Dogwood Chapter. publicly Jimison is developing a consumer education day at her hospital to educate the public and formally measure outcomes

sum of two units AORN members received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Mentorship. Anne Medlin, RN BSN CNOR, AORN of Northwest Georgia, has encouraged perioperative promotes in her department to achieve national certification, and 50% of them have done thus Vivian Watson, RN, CNOR, e-Chapter, says that individual of the most rewarding aspects of her career has been seeing the deductions of her mentoring and coaching of compeer perioperative nurses.
