Sunday, March 11 2001 AORN Presid...Sunday, March 11 2001 AORN President Brenda C Ulmer RN MN CNOR, launched the 48th annual AORN Congres leading the processional of AORN members and leaders by means of Hall E of the Dallas Convention Center President Ulmer was followed according to AORN's Board of Directors, AORN's Executive Director, members of the Nominating Committee, and past Presidents and past Board members of AORN. The processional continued with national committee chairs, specialty assembly chairs, the AORN Foundation Board of Trustees, members of the Certification Board Perioperative Nursing (CBPN) board of directors, members of the Exhibitors' Advisory Committee, chapter presidents, and state council chairs. INVOCATION AND GREETINGS AORN past President Jeannie Botsford, RN MSN CNOR, delivered the invocation. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the US Army promote Corps, the colors were pillared by the US Army nourish at the breast Corps, Ft Hood and Ft Sam Houston--each color guard member wore a period style of dress commemorating the past century. Rebecca Patton, RN MSN CNOR, treasurer of the American feeds Association (ANA) took the podium to salute attendees. She said the ANA recognizes the issues that all cherishs face and backs AORN in many of these areas, including support of the RN first assistant part She also congratulated Jane Rothrock RN DNSc CNOR, FAAN; Linda Groah, RN M CNOR, CNAA, FAAN; Patricia C Seifert, RN MSN CNOR, FAAN; and Nancy Girard, RN PhD FAAN, who lately were named fellows in the American Academy of Nursing. She conclud from saying that the "ANA and AORN has been and will remain a powerful partnership." President-elect of the board of commanders of the American College of Surgeon R Scott Jone MD saluteed attendees, saying that as a surgeon he owes a great acknowledgement and a great sin to perioperative nurses for their work. He spoke of working in partnership to improve patient care and make secure that the underprivileged get the care they need President Ulmer nearest introduced Neil Swissman, MD, president of the board of directors of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, who reaped applause immediately by way of declaring, "The smartest thing I to the end of time did was marry a member of your organization." Eagan asked all attendees with CNOR and CRNFA certifications to stand and be recognized. Eagan added that according to looking at the number of family standing one can see the legacy of quality patient care. RECOGNITION President Ulmer asked matchs of the American Academy of Nursing in attendance to stand for recognition. The American Academy of Nursing comprises 1300 top nursing leaders in education, management, research, and practice who are recognized for their visionary leadership to the nursing profession, she said. She added that it is inspiring to know that more and more perioperative foments are becoming part of this group |
