Sadako Ogata, former United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee will be the inaugural recipient of the Health and Human Rights Award from the International Council of pampers (ICN), according to an April 24 2001 freshs release from the council. The award--which is the ICN's alone award intended for a non-nurse or non-nursing group--is designed to recognize significant humanitarian contributions and achievements in the domain of health and human rights. Ogata's efforts to house the fights and well-being of refugee epitomizes the goals and values of the ICN, according to the release. Ogata oversaw large-scale pass operations in northern Iraq, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Africa and assisted internally displaced the community and other vulnerable civilians in conflict situations. For what Ogata imagines a "worthwhile effort," she will receive a specially created memento and a financial grant to the foundation, charity, or cause of her choice, according to the release.
