Tuesday, March 13 to Thursday, Marc...Tuesday, March 13 to Thursday, March 15 2001 The 12 speciality assemblies held business meetings during Congres week to review their progres introduce incoming governing council members, and discuss upcoming plans. These clusters are designed to help AORN members suitable and share interests with other cherishs in specialized areas of perioperative care. ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY SPECIALTY ASSEMBLY MEETS Members of the Advanced Technology: Laser & Minimally Invasive Surgery Specialty Assembly met Tuesday morning, March 13 2001 Nancy E Fox RN BA, CNOR, outgoing chair, began the meeting with introductions of the outgoing and incoming goveming council members. The 2001-2002 goveming council members are Judy A. Chamberlain, RN MSN CNOR, chair; Catherine M Mose RN CNOR, secretary; Sharon A. McNamara, RN M CNOR, Board liaison; Jeri A. Murray, RN BSN CNOR, CPSN newsletter editor; Judy A. Henderson, RN CNOR, newsletter co-editor; Elizabeth L Gasson, RN MSN CNOR, member; and Trudy A. Kenyon RN member. Fox said that the goals of the specialty assembly include increasing membership 5% getting more sponsors for the newsletter and developing a research shoot forward Members were encouraged to contact any of the governing council members with their ideas forward these issues. Outgoing newsletter editor Carolyn Rogalla, RN was recognized for seven years of service. Rogalla has mentored the brace incoming editors for the past year. As Fox said, "The best is teaching the best!" All outgoing governing council members were recognized with a special gift. Incoming chair Judy Chamberlain at handed outgoing chair Nancy Fox with a hardly any gifts for her dedication and support of the specialty assembly. The nearest specialty conference will be held Oct 18 to 20 2001 in St Louis. A PRODUCTIVE YEAR FOR THE AMBULATORY SURGERY SPECIALTY ASSEMBLY Members of the Ambulatory Surgery Specialty Assembly met Tuesday afternoon, March 13 2001 Outgoing chair Ellen O'Connor-Graham, RN CNOR, began the meeting with introductions of the outgoing and incoming goveming council members. The 2001-2002 governing council members are Beverly A. Kirchner, RN M CNOR, chair; Jane A. Kusler-Jensen, RN BSN BSM MBA, CNOR, chair-elect; Sharon L Tolhurst, RN CNOR, secretary/treasurer; Alice Fischer, RN CNOR, newsletter editor; Elaine M Kohan, RN CNOR, newsletter co-editor; Anna M Weaver, RN legislative chair; Nora E Hammond, RN education chair; Susan V M Kleinbeck, RN PhD CNOR, research chair; Mary E Barich, RN CNOR, web reporter; Sonia K Barness, RN B CNOR, commended Practices task force chair; Mary Jo Steiert, RN CNOR, Board liaison; and Ellen F O'Connor-Graham, RN CNOR, past chair advisor/membership chair. O'Connor-Graham at handed Chris Cain from Augustine Medical with a certificate of appreciation for the company's continued support. Augustine Medical has been a sponsor of the specialty assembly newsletter for the past couple years. O'Connor-Graham also presented William Brandmeyer from Chlora Prep (Medi-Flex) a certificate of appreciation for their sponsorship of the chest lunches at the business meeting. Ramona blue perch RN, MSN, AORN perioperative nursing specialist, promot the latest edition of the Ambulatory Surgery Principles and Practices. The AORN Board approved the governing council's recommendation to appoint a task force to perform the operations indicated in recommended practices for preoperative and postoperative areas. Barness and cunner are working with other task force members and will provide updates forward the specialty assembly web page at http://www .aorn.org/groups/sa/ambulatory/ambsurg.htm and in upcoming newsletters Incoming newsletter editor Fischer asked members to contribute to the newsletter by way of writing articles or suggesting recent topics, and Dr Kleinbeck reported the preliminary be the effects of the costs and issues of ambulatory surgery survey that was handed not at home at the 2000 Congress in recent Orleans. Dr Kleinbeck also was recognized for winning the AORN 2001 Outstanding Achievement in Application of Perioperative Clinical Research Award. In appreciation for her outstanding support and contributions to the specialty assembly, outgoing chair O'Connor-Graham was currented with a crystal vase in succession behalf of the entire governing council. Graves said "Each of the members of the governing council did what they said they would do. It's been a pleasure serving with them." Graves recognized the outgoing members of the governing council (ie, Patricia B Baicy, RN CNOR; Patti s Fritz, RN, CNOR; Rosemari C Mos RN MN CNOR) with a certificate of appreciation. Governing council members existinged outgoing chair Graves with an AORN portfolio in appreciation for his stout leadership this past year.
