The AORN Board of Directors held its post-Congres Board meeting in Dallas upon March 16, 2001. All members were near Tom Cooper, the new Executive Director of the Association, also was present

Items discussed during the Board meeting included

* action items from the 2001 House of Delegates,

* Board committees and liaisons,

* AORN Foundation, and

* events to come meetings.

ACTION ITEMS FROM THE 2001 HOUSE OF DELEGATES

There was support from the House of Delegates for the work of the Governance Task Force, likewise the Task Force will continue. Charlotte Guglielmi, RN BSN CNOR, will chair the Task Force, and President-elect Donna Watson, RN MSN CNOR, ARNP, FNP-C will be of use to as the Board liaison. The Task Force is charged with continuing its work. A subgroup of the Task Force will be appointed to investigate alternative [i]modus operandi[/i]s of implementing a one-member/one-vote scheme The President will appoint members of the subgroup and will beseech a report at the October 2001 Board meeting.

A motion was made during the House of Delegates that the Board direct the eye at developing and testing a portable perioperative workshop for RN President Allen reported that Debra Fawcett, RN BSN M and Mary Jo Steiert, RN CNOR, will work with Katherine Halverson-Carpenter, RN MBA, CNOR, AORN director of professional services, forward the project. The President will appoint other members, and this issue will be discussed at the 2001 June Board meeting. Progres upon this initiative also will be reported at the 2002 House of Delegates.



During the House of Delegates, delegates discussed the issue of delegates missing education sessions befitting to conflicts with the House of Delegates and other delegate business sessions. The Board has asked staff members at AORN Headquarters to report forward this issue at the June Board meeting. A solicit to create track programs at Congres (eg an orthopedics track, a management track) will be shared with the National Committee forward Education to consider as Committee members review Congres programs.

Other topics raised at the 2001 House of Delegates that the Board of Directors addressed include scholar memberships. AORN staff members will make a recommendation to be discussed at the June Board meeting about issues related to scholar memberships, dues structure, recruitment, and scholarships. A member also solicited that the Board send a literal meaning of support to the remaining Angels of Bataan, who were taken prisoner forward Bataan and Corregidor during World War II. The Executive Director will speak to Beth Norman, author of We Band of Angels and speaker at the 2001 AORN Congres about the best approach to provide support for any remaining members of this dispose The Board also followed up upon a recommendation from the Ambulatory Surgery Specialty Assembly to perform the operations indicated in standards and recommended practices for office-based surgery The President will appoint a task force to disclose office-based surgery standards and attract favor toed practices.

AORN FOUNDATION

The AORN Board approved the reappointments of mercy Vaiden, RN, CNOR; Henry Berling; view Davidson; Curt Selquist; and move with a jerk Tyler to the Foundation Board of Trustees. The Board approved the appointments of Charlie Mills; Rick Jackson; Rick Ferreira; and Shed Vos RN M CNOR for threeyear bourns as Board of Trustees members.

The nearest meeting of the AORN Board of Directors will be June 21 to 22 2001 in Washington, DC The meeting will be held in conjunction with the RNFA Forum, the Leadership talk and Lobby Day.
