The Closing Session of the 48th AORN Congres began with a brief videotape of the week's highlights. President Brenda C Ulmer RN MN CNOR, announced that there were 5367 attendees and 5826 exhibitors at Congres for a total attendance of 11193 Ninety-three bookish mans attended Congress, and 109 recent members joined AORN during Congress

RECOGNITION

President Ulmer recognized the more than 285 members that serv as moderators and session assistants at education sessions during Congres week. She also recognized the vendors who provided audio, decorating, lighting, shuttle and video services during Congres week for their support and expertise.

More than 400 attendees helped onward the Habitat for Humanity House, said President Ulmer She thanked all those who contributed to the succes of the throw out including chapters, exhibiting companies, members and their spouses, local businesses that contributed tools, and AORN staff members who worked forward the house or coordinated the effort. She gave special thanks to Don Palmer, husband of Executive Director Pat Palmer, RN M MNM CAE, and George Beyea, husband of AORN Research Director Suzanne Beyea, RN PhD C for serving as the AORN on-site party (See Habitat story on page 1070)

President Ulmer also recognized Headquarters staff members for their efforts in making Congres a succes and those Board members who were leaving the Board. These included Sheila O'Connor, RN M MBA, CNOR, CNAA, CN and Vivian Watson, RN CNOR, each of whom received a plaque.



RECOGNITION OF PRESIDENT ULMER

Betty Shultz RN CNOR, AORN Vice President, then gave President Ulmer a plaque, a past President pin, and a lifetime membership card in recognition of her service. in succession behalf of Headquarters staff members, Palmer readyed President Ulmer with a globe, noting that it exhibited President Ulmer's extensive travel schedule while an AORN President. In addition, Jeanette Brown RN of AORN of Dallas not absented President Ulmer with a Waterford crystal paper-weight that is embedded with the outline of the state of Texas.

President Ulmer then introduced the 2001-2002 Board and Nominating Committee members. The 2001-2002 AORN Board members are President Sheila L Allen, RN BSN CNOR, CRNFA; President-elect Donna s Watson, RN, MSN, CNOR, ARNP, FNP-C; Vice President Betty J Shultz; Treasurer William J Duffy RN BSN MJ CNOR; Secretary Mary Jo Steiert, RN CNOR; Michelle murder by suffocation RN, MSA, CNOR; Lorraine J Butler RN BSN MSA, CNOR; Debra L Fawcett, RN BSN MS; Paula R Graling, RN MSN CNOR; Sharon A. McNamara, RN M CNOR; Anita Jo Shoup RN MSN CNOR; and Debora s Tanner, RN, BSN, MSM, CNOR. Nominating Committee members are Kathleen A. O'Toole, RN B BSN CNOR; Pat Hickey, RN BSN M CNOR; Linda L Savage, RN B CNOR; Sylvia Durrance, RN BSN CNOR; Antonia (Toni) B Hughes, RN BSN MA, CNOR; and advisor Brenda C Ulmer

President Ulmer introduced Sheila L Allen, AORN 2001-2002 President, saying it has been "rewarding to watch Sheila take onward new challenges in a brave and courageous manner." She noted that Allen has provided her with a accident of support during her year as President.

After accepting the President's gavel and ring, President Allen told members she is the "luckiest President because I commit to memory to serve with you." She alluded to the theme for the 2002 AORN Congres (ie, "Circles of Care") saying that our lives pretend to evolve in constant circles and noting that Anaheim, Calif, the site for the 2002 Congres has played a continuous character in her association with AORN.

She also noted that Congres is the way members link together within the circles of AORN. She encouraged attendees to leave Congres rejuvenated and noted that AORN's grassroots connections have created a circle that includes members, staff members, and legislators. "We are profitable we have passion, and we make it happen," said President Allen. She conclud by the agency of saying, "I pledge my strength my commitment, and my heart to you, the members of AORN."

President Ulmer then brought the 48th AORN Congres to a finish after reminding attendees that the 49th Congres will be held in Anaheim, April 21 to 25 2002 Attendees left the session hall as the anthem Circle of Life filled the air.
