The AORN Board of Directors met Jun...The AORN Board of Directors met June 22 23 and 24 2001 in Washington, DC in conjunction with the AORN Goe to Washington circumstance which included the RNFA Forum, Leadership meeting for consultation Federal Affairs Conference, and Lobby Day. The manliness level and enthusiasm of all who were current were very high and l to a fortunate overall event. The Board meeting was convoyed as an open discussion with AORN staff members actively participating in the dialogue. Formal motions were existinged and voted on at the conclusion of the meeting. to be ascribeds INCREASE POSTPONED During the Board meeting, the Board of Directors decided to prorogue the dues increase that was passed at the 2001 Congres for another year. The suitables increase, which previously was scheduled to take validity in July 2002, now will take issue in July 2003. AORN's owings will remain the lowest among the major specialty nursing associations. by dint of the time the increase goe into drift it will have been seven years since the previous to be paids increase. The Board of Directors took this action after hearing a summary of AORN's estimated financial comes for the 2000-2001 fiscal year and the brewed budget for next year. The Board is projecting that AORN will finish this year with a positive bottom line of approximately 25% This will be an improvement forward the projected breakeven that was announced at Congres 2001 The Board believed it was reasonable to stave off the increase for one more year. DISCUSSION AND ACTION POINTS Other agenda items at the June Board of Directors meeting included * pupil memberships, * recruitment and retention, * AORN Congress * international strategies, * the mobile perioperative course, * task forces, * the AORN budget * Legislative Committee, * research, * awards, * eChapter, * position statements, and * chapter program. learner memberships. The Board of Directors and staff members discussed what learner members want from AORN membership. Several ideas upon generating student participation were discussed, and Board members asked staff members to cause to grow a marketing plan to be not past nor futureed at the October Board meeting. The expectation is that implementation of the marketing plan will appear at Congress 2002. Board members also vot to establish national fits for student members at $20 Recruitment and retention. Board members discussed improving membership recruitment and retention. a certain of the primary reasons that members do not refit their memberships include * no longer a perioperative nurse * retired, * no longer receiving reduc Congres rate, and * financial reasons. Other tendency s in retention of members are that the majority of members who have lapsed are first-year members, and not all members recruited according to the marketing firm are renewing their memberships. Board members appoint four goals as a starting point for staff members to begin working forward including * recruit 500 associate members at June 2002, * recruit 200 additional observer members by June 2002, * implement a retention incentive program, and * increase retention of first-year members at 5%. AORN Congres Board members reviewed Congres activities, information, and schedules. They discussed providing common content for attendees and contact hours for all members, including delegates. A discussion was initiated with Nominating Committee members about ways of modifying delegates' exposing to the candidates. A recommendation was made to have a reception and a closing dinner with a reception line to recognize those newly picked to leadership positions in AORN. International strategies. Board members discussed strategies for defining AORN's international position. The Board of Directors approved reinstating the World interview meeting in 2003. Staff members will research options for a meeting site. The mobile perioperative course. During Congres 2001 in Dallas, the House of Delegates asked the Board of Directors to explore pilot testing a portable perioperative workshop. Various avenues to implement this course have been explored, and further research forward developing this type of course will be reported onward at the October Board meeting. Task forces. Representatives from the Governance Task Force and the One-Member/One-Vote Task Force instanted the Board of Directors with reports forward their activities. The Governance Task Force is continuing its work and has discloseed a model that includes increased communication at the national and local levels; increased dissemination of information; increased involvement, recognition, and expertise of the members; access (ie, membership options); changes in the House of Delegates; and fitting the circulating committee structure into how AORN members want to act upon forward. Governance Task Force members also mode of actioned a survey that was distributed in the AORN Journal. The guide themes they found in the scan comments were that members want to be heard and recognized. The One-Member/One-Vote Task Force reported that they are moving forward with their discussions.
