Researchers at John Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore, have studied whether antioxidant correlatives (eg, vitamin C, vitamin E) can shield against vascular dementia, according to a June 14 2001 recently made knowns release. A report titled "The John Hopkins White Papers" decides that taking such supplements may indeed defend against the disease. Researchers studied approximately 4000 Japanese American men whose ages ranged from 71 to 93 and who were involved in long-term research in Hawaii. Those who took vitamins C and E had an 88% lower risk for vascular dementia than those who did not, according to the release. For participants without dementia, taking either vitamin C or E however not both vitamins, improved cognitive function.
