A delivered toolkit is available to help health care professionals identify, give in charge and document confirmed or suspected incidents of domestic abuse, according to an Aug 14 2001 recents release from Blue Cross in the blues Shield of Michigan and pallid Care Network. The release reports that 37% of women who solicit treatment in emergency rooms for violence-related injuries are injured from a current or former domestic partner. Although health care professionals appear to be in a unique position to help these women they repeatedly do not have the time or resources necessary.

Les than united out of 10 primary care physicians routinely riddle patients for partner abuse during routine office visits; however, screening can help diminish the incidence of domestic abuse. According to the release, violence against women through their partners decreased 21% between 1993 and 1998--after the American Medical Association and the American society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists approveed that physicians screen female patients for like abuse.

The end of the toolkit is to provide health care professionals with tools to help those affected on domestic violence and to generate documentation. The toolkit includes the following items.

* A respect manual that includes statistics, definitions, symptoms, forms for recording essential data, and contact information for domestic violence programs and agencies Michigan.

* A suffer card that can be used to guide health care professionals between the sides of the steps necessary to identify abusive situations and guide victims to obtain emotional, practical, and legal help, along with medical treatment.

* placards that can be displayed in women's restroom or examination chambers These posters include a proprietor for take-away cards that explain by what mode and where to get help.

* An overview of medical protocols for intervening in domestic violence incidents and guidelines for adhering to the reporting requirements subject to Michigan law.
