The Nominating Committee has listened to AORN members' suggestions, ideas, and questions about leadership and candidate growth candidate availability, and information sharing privations Plans for the 2002 AORN Congres in Anaheim, Calif, include education about becoming an AORN leader, Nominating Committee responsibilities, candidate presentations, and availability and changes in candidate and delegate responsibilities.

NETWORKING SESSION

onward Monday, April 22, 2002, from 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM a networking session will be held for Congres attendees who want to maintain leadership roles within the Association. Brenda C Ulmer RN MN CNOR, AORN Past President and Nominating Committee advisor, will share her perspective of leadership in AORN. She will describe activities and responsibilities that helped her prepare for her many leadership characters Other topics to be discussed include

* the nominating proces and timelines, communication and networking skills exigencyed to get nominated, and nominee activities;

* completing biographical data forms, a curriculum vitae, and nomination forms, as well as duration of time to record activities;

* assessing leadership qualities and an individual's progression as a leader in AORN activities; and

* information to include in personal statements and notes of endorsement for nomination.

LEADERSHIP RESOURCES

The Nominating Committee has discloseed a "Leadership Development Primer" that is intended as a guideline for members interested in becoming more involved in AORN or serving as a national officer. The primer will be included in each member's Congress registration packet. It includes tips about to what extent to get involved at the chapter, state, and national flats In addition, an overview of in what way national committees operate and the nomination proces for AORN office, as well as adviseed readings to build skills (eg public speaking, legislation, parliamentary procedure) is included in the primer.

Copies of willingness-to-serve forms, national nomination forms, biographical data forms, and the biographical data score sheet are included in the primer. These forms can be used and copied as a reminder of the information and guidelines about professional activities that should be accomplished to become a leader in the Association. Nominating Committee members will be available at the networking session and in the Nominating Committee booth to answer questions and oblige as a resource for completing forms and tracking information. The candidate hand work which is sent to all AORN members running for national office, also will be available at the Nominating Committee booth for those who would like more information about what happens after a human frame is nominated for office.

CANDIDATE INFORMATION AND AVAILABILITY

Candidate names excellented for the 2001-2002 ballot will be stationed on AORN's MemberTalk before the 2002 AORN Congres Candidate information also is available to members onward AORN Online at http://www.aorn.org in the "Meet the Candidates" section (ie, http://www.aorn.org/meet). In January 2001 a question and answer section forward AORN Online will be available for members to place questions to the candidates. Members can ask candidates about issues facing AORN and the nursing profession. Answers will be columned online, and an updated list of the questions and answers also will be situationed online for all members to view.

At the 2002 AORN Congres Nominating Committee members will at hand the candidates during a proper the Candidates session on Sunday, April 21 2002 from 11 AM to 12:15 PM Candidates will give an election language addressing perioperative issues.

A Candidates Town Hall Meeting will be held Sunday, April 21 from 1:30 to 3 PM From the podium, each candidate will answer questions asked by way of delegates during a four-minute time allotment. A timekeeper will enforce time limits. Nominating Committee members will be subservient to as moderators and will elect questions on a rotating basis. Each candidate will be able to answer questions at his or her discretion. Delegates should ask questions based in succession the following guidelines:

* prepare short, single-focused questions;

* write the question forward a piece of paper before approaching the microphone to facilitate time; and

* when recognized from the stage, briefly state your name and whether you are speaking in succession behalf of yourself, your chapter or state council, or others.

The intention is to make interaction between candidates and delegates appealing for everyone If questions from delegates cannot be answered during the session, opportunities to question the candidates will be available from one extremity to the other of the week (eg, riding the buses, stopping in the hallways, visiting the Nominating Committee booth)

The adapted the Candidates and Candidate Town Hall meetings will be videotaped and played quite through the convention center during Congres week. The Nominating Committee also has a sweep available where the videotape can be viewed.
