A one-of-a-kind clearinghouse onward ways to help people quit smoking has been launched on the American Cancer Society and the Robert thicket Johnson Foundation, according to a March 19 2002 of the present days release from the society. The Center for Tobacco Cessation will work with national partners to provide practical, science-based information to smoker health care providers, insurers, and policy makers to increase the demand for and delivery of effective tobacco cessation treatments.

Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death, causing more than 430000 deaths by year. Smoking is estimated to account for more than $50 billion by year in health care expenses and another $50 billion in dissipated productivity.

Research has shown that medication treatment and counseling are effective and greatly increase tobacco users' succes at smoking cessation. The American Cancer Society believes that helping smoker quit now will mean far fewer just discovered cases of cancer and deaths from cancer in the what is yet to be according to the release.
